NOTE: We are providing "credentials" on our officers. We do this because we feel
that anyone that asks support from others should really be gladly WILLING to provide the public with this information!
The public has a right to know who is running an organization and that person's professional "resume" so to speak to
demonstrate their competency. Please feel free to contact us should you wish further information in regards to our professional
experience. We will also gladly provide our organization's financial information (AR/AP) provided you send a self addressed
stamped envelope and reasonable copying coverage as provided by law.
The Director and Founder of The
Wolf Sanctum, Inc., is Elizabeth Sherwen Mahaffey. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in
1948, Liz is the third daughter of a Naval pilot. She spent her early childhood traveling extensively as a "Navy Brat."
Graduating from a High School in Florida, Liz attended Orlando
Jr. College prior to moving to Frankfurt, Germany. During
the two years she lived in Germany, Liz was able to travel to numerous countries. After getting married in Switzerland,
Liz returned to the United States, raising two children amidst a working career.
Professionally, Liz has held positions as Executive Secretary (to the VP of Concorde Fibers, Columbia, MD); Administrative
Assistant (to the President of Fawn Togs, Braselton, GA); Office Manager (Digilab, Columbia, MD); Administrative Secretary
(VP of Marketing, Environment Products Division of Dynasciences, Chatsworth, CA); Sales & Advertising Manager (printing
corp in California); Manager (billing/CRS dept. in District Photo, Inc., Beltsville, MD); General Secretary (Pershing
Modification Project, Martin Marietta, Frankfurt, Germany); and other office/administration positions.
In 1983, Liz changed her career to become a Law Enforcement Officer, joining the 6th largest Sheriff's Department in
the State of Georgia. During the next eighteen years with the Hall County Sheriff's Department, Liz served as a Patrol
Officer, Criminal Investigator, Narcotics Investigator, as well as a Field Training Officer.
Among numerous certifications, Liz was a certified Red Cross First Aid/CPR instructor at the Sheriff's Department.
Medically retiring in 2001, Liz decided to pursue founding a Wolf Educational Facility and Sanctuary, moving to the
Appalachian mountains in North Carolina.
The "family" started in 1990, when Liz took in two wolfdogs from a friend who needed to find them a spacious home.
Living on a 125 acre farm, there was more than enough room when the two presented Liz with an extended family, and life with
a wolf pack began. Through trial and error, reading material on wolves and uncountable hours working on fences,
experience and knowledge was gained. Over the years, other wolf/wolfdogs came to live on the farm, needing a safe haven.
The Sanctum was founded to pass on not only the love for the wolf, but all the experience gained from working with wolves
and wolfdogs in hopes that others may also learn to love, respect and hopefully conserve this magnificent resource.
