*Do NOT trust Mapquest or your GPS unit up here in the mountains. There is NO way to get over the mountains from Highway 19 onto Henson Creek Road to connect up with Cane Creek Road unless you are on a mule. You can put in the address of 3815 Cane Creek Road, Bakersville, NC 28705 (our road name, Wolf Crossing, is a private road and may not always show up…so use the Cane Creek Road address)  to pull up a general location however….but follow my directions listed below.  Now, I’ve got this warning about GPS posted about three times on our website and still have people that insist on using their GPS to find us…and invaritable get lost.  But, I’ve heard the folks over on Henson Creek Road are very friendly when you stop and ask them where you are.

PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT WE DO NOT ALLOW UNESCORTED VISITS….please do not come unless you have made prior arrangements or unless it is on a Saturday from noon until 6 pm when we have Open Houses from the beginning of May through the end of October.

From East of Asheville (or from Hickory area)

(1) I-40 to exit 86 and come north towards Marion.

Go north on Hwy 221, thru the outskirts of Marion (Hwy 221 and 226 join) turn left at a stoplight onto Hwy 226 towards Little Switzerland and Spruce Pine, go up about another 1/2 mile taking another right to keep on 226N (DON’t take 226A).

Come up the mountain, and at the top, turn Right keeping on 226 North. Come up about another five miles, then turn left onto highway 19E. Come up two stoplights, and turn right onto 226 N again towards Bakersville.

Drive about another ten to fifteen minutes and you will be in Bakersville. At the Exxon/Quick Mart, turn right onto Maple Avenue and come up to the end and turn right onto Cane Creek Road.    For the scenic route and to see the shops in Bakersville,  go up another couple of blocks to the stoplight (there’s only one full stoplight in the town) and take a right.  You will then be on N. Mitchell which turns into Cane Creek Road.

Come up approximately 3.5  miles from the stoplight (or about 3 miles if you turned on Maple Avenue)  on Cane Creek. We are at 3815 Cane Creek Road on the left. You will see our large brown and white  sign saying The Wolf Sanctum, and our own road name, Wolf Crossing. Turn left and follow the gravel drive up the hill, and take the first drive on the right where all the white signs are,  to the Wolf Compound.  Turn in front of those signs…..I’ve spray painted a red arrow on the big white sign.

(2) FROM ASHEVILLE :

From I-40, get onto 240 to Exit 4a to the old 19/23 north exit towards Weaverville, Marshall and UNC.. This is now also called I-26 west towards Johnson City, Tn. Stay on I-26 west to Exit 9. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto Hwy 19 towards Burnsville and Spruce Pine. Yes folks, this is a long stretch of nothingness (and you’ll see signs that say it’s Hwy 19 or Hwy 19E) and currently there’s road construction. Drive about 1/2 hours and you’ll hit Burnsville, so if you need a bathroom break, stop here. Once you pass Burnsville, you’re about 1/2 hour from us.

You’ll see the Welcome to Mitchell County sign. Drive about 2-3 miles to the first stoplight, and turn Left onto 226N.

Drive about another ten to fifteen minutes and you will be in Bakersville. At the Exxon/Quick Mart, turn right onto Maple Avenue and come up to the end and turn right onto Cane Creek Road.  (see my notes in blue above for a scenic/town route)

Come up 3.0 miles on Cane Creek. We are at 3815 Cane Creek Road on the left. You will see our large sign saying The Wolf Sanctum, and our own road name, Wolf Crossing. Turn left and follow the gravel drive up the hill, and take the first drive on the right, turning in front of  all the big white signs  …….to the Wolf Compound.

FROM BOONE, NC.

From Boone, Hwy 105, come east….at the second Grandfather Mountain sign (the first big sign is at the Tynecastle Shopping area…go past this one) , turn right onto Mitchell Avenue. Come up to the stoplight. Turn left onto Hwy 221. Follow 221 and turn right onto 194 S to Spruce Pine (this will be the second sign for Hwy 194…the first one takes you into Newland..DON’T TURN THERE!!!!). This road is also called Three Mile Highway. Go to the end. Turn left onto Hwy 19, and go past the turn offs for Spruce Pine, and take Hwy 226 N to Bakersville (this is two stoplights past the Hwy 226 S turnoff).

Drive about another ten to fifteen minutes and you will be in Bakersville. At the Exxon/Quick Mart, turn right onto Maple Avenue and come up to the end and turn right onto Cane Creek Road.  (see the notes in blue, above, for the scenic/town route)

Come up 3.0 miles on Cane Creek. We are at 3815 Cane Creek Road on the left. You will see our large sign saying The Wolf Sanctum, and our own road name, Wolf Crossing. Turn left and follow the gravel drive up the hill, and take the first drive on the right and in front of  all the big white signs….. to the Wolf Compound.

FROM JOHNSON CITY (TRI-CITIES area) Tn:

Take I-26 towards Asheville. Get off at Exit 32/Unicoi Road and turn left. Go about .05 miles to the stopsign, and turn RIGHT onto Hwy 173 east. Go .06 mile, and turn LEFT onto Hwy 107. Follow 107 for about 10 miles and it becomes NC Highway 226. Continue on Hwy 226 for another 16 miles. You will come into Bakersville and there will be a blinking yellow light. Turn RIGHT at this blinking light onto Crimson Laurel Way, which is also Hwy 226 going south. Immediately take a LEFT at the stoplight onto North Mitchell/Cane Creek Road. (Please note that there is no street sign at this intersection…but, there is only one stoplight in the entire town) Come up 3.5 miles and you will see our brown and white sign on the left, and our road sign Wolf Crossing.

Come up to the top of this road, and where it looks like three roads meet, take the first one to the right, where all the large big white signs are and turn into that road which is in front of all the large white signs…..
