Wolf Trek programs and educational tours

Wolf Trek Work Programs

Educational Wolf Trek Work Programs are given on site at The Wolf Sanctum for groups who wish to pitch in and volunteer a bit at our 501(c)(3) non profit facility.

Programs consist of an educational program given by the Director about the Wolf:  their importance as a top predator in our eco-system; interesting facts about the wolf; their behavior; and current conservation efforts.

Group participants will get to meet the residents of The Wolf Sanctum, which represent several sub-species of the Gray Wolf.  At our Welcome Center, educational handouts are available and a video presentation of "A Baby Timber Wolf Grows Up" can be viewed, as well as other more advanced level films.

Group size should be limited to approximately 12 students.  Larger groups will be split up into tour sizes of approximately 10-15 students at a time.  One group will get to view a video while we give the smaller group tours, and we will rotate the groups as necessary.

Our Wolf Trek Work Programs are sponsored by The Wolf Sanctum free of charge.  Donations are appreciated.

Sorry, we do NOT do any off-site programs.

Our on site Wolf Trek Programs are given in the afternoons only.

Please go to the "Directions"  tab to get directions to the Wolf Sanctum.   We urge you to NOT trust a GPS unit up here in the mountains...it will lead you over roads that only a mule train could traverse.  No kidding.    Also, if you want to put in our address to get a general idea, type in 3815 Cane Creek Road, Bakersville, NC 28705.  Our road name Wolf Crossing is a private road and won't show up.

  VISITING POLICY:

Education is important to us and we welcome those who would like to visit our facility for a tour and  learn about wolves.

As of May 1, 2010 we will be open on Saturdays for OPEN HOUSE, from noon until 6 p.m.  No appointment is necessary on these Saturday Open Houses.

If you would like to arrange for a tour on a different day, you will need to make an appointment with the Director.  Please call (828) 688-9005 or e-mail director@wolfsanctum.org (this is not a link by the way, so you'll have to type it in).

GIFT SHOP/ Open House...The Wolf Sanctum hosts an "Open House" from May 1st, 2010 through the end October.  We are open to the general public on Saturdays from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. (weather permitting).  Our Director, Liz Mahaffey, is an artist member of the Toe River Art Council and her artistic work is displayed at the Gift Shop (see that link at Gift Shop for pictures).  We also have  James Fisher Gallery photography of the resident animals at The Wolf Sanctum, and the art of Wolf Song Studio.

Proceeds from our Gift Shop sales go directly for the support of our 501(c)(3) non profit organization for the residents in sanctuary.

Please be advised that we do not allow any unescorted visitors on the premises, so an appointment is necessary to come to our Gift Shop if you wish to come on another day.    We are always happy to schedule this.  Contact director@wolfsanctum.org  or call (828) 688-9005.

We love pets...but please leave them at home during your visit to our facility.
